7 Ways to Maximize your Small Space
Having a small space to work on is sometimes frustrating, for you feel like there is never enough space for everything that you need in a home. Here are a few ideas that will maximize your space and bring new life to your room.
Make it Light and Bright
As much as possible, keep away from dark colors – for they do not reflect light and decrease the perception of the room’s size. (If you’re looking for a warm and cozy feel, then dark colors are perfect). You can go for light colored walls to brighten up the space and create an illusion of a bigger space.
Maximize floor space
Small spaces can easily feel cluttered more quickly than larger homes. One way to make a room feel less cluttered is to maximize the floor space when adding furniture so it feels more open. You may look for furniture that takes up minimal floor space, such as wall sconces or pendant light instead of floor lamps and table lamps. Use floating shelves or open and narrow legs storage instead of heavy cabinets and dressers.
Create that Illusion
For small and low-ceiling rooms, you may want to attach the curtain as close as possible to the ceiling for an illusion of added room height. If you want to have wooden floors, one trick to make a narrow space appear longer, lay your floor boards at a right angle from the longer side of the room.
Have an open space
If you live in a studio apartment or a small home, consider having an open space. To make divisions between areas, you can strategically position furniture in such a way that it denotes boundaries between those areas. Using sliding doors instead of a regular one can also save up space for small apartments.
Add depth and accent
If you feel restricted to using dark colors and bold statements, you can add a corner area, or small wall space specially for this. A patterned wall paper or a splash of bold wall paint, or accent pieces on floating shelves can do the trick. For a small space an alcove can is a good idea to add depth and a good area for storage or display as well.
Choose multipurpose furniture and storage
Adding multipurpose furniture can be a life saver for small space owners. Multipurpose furniture has been a trend these days and you can find them everywhere. One most common one is an under-bed storage which can hide everything under your bed. There are also open book cases that have a fold-down table for your work space. As much as possible, utilize every area of the space by using multipurpose storages or furniture.
Add Mirrors
Everyone knows that a mirror makes a room bigger that it actually is by doubling its appearance. But putting up a mirror can be somehow tricky and be able to utilize it and have it as a decorative piece at the same time. Mirrors are best paired with a light source, for it boosts brightness and adds dimension to the space. Things like framing, height, size and how it will be installed are also more things to consider when adding a mirror to a small room.
